Hels Workshop

Hi everyone. Just a little post to show you the lovely project this group of ladies made at Hel's Saturday
workshop here at Birds in the Barn.

I had to drag them out in the cold to take this picture so you could see our festive decorations!!! They had spent a cosy day tucked in the workshop around the log burner so I think the cold came as a bit of a shock! Mind you they are all smiling!

Hels taking a well earned fag break!
If you hop over to Hel's blog you can see the shadow box which was Friday's workshop project. Or pop into the shop to see both the canvas and the frame for yourself.
We still have places available on some of our December workshops so give us a call to book your place. The January list should be on the website very soon. Watch this space!

Bye for now

Christmas Card Workshop 2nd November...

Six lovely ladies took part in this Christmas Card workshop, most of them new to crafting which was lovely.  Several of them wanted details of stamps & inks used so here is a brief summary.

Card One:  We coloured the background in tea dye, stormy sky & iced spruce distress inks, blending from the mat towards the centre of the card. We lightly stamped the Indigoblu script stamp with a choice of one of the distress inks above then spritzed the card with Enchanted Gold mica spray.  Next we embossed the card with the holly embossing folder from Crafters Companion which gave it some lovely texture.  We then stamped the Crafty Individuals stamp twice, once for the base image & the second one for just the lady, then we cut out the images.  Once we had coloured the lady, tree & baubles in we mounted the small image onto the base image & used Glossy Accents to enamel the baubles & gems.  Two lovely metal corners were waxed with a choice of Treasure Gold waxes & adhered to the corners.

Card Two:  This simple card used a foliage stamp & sentiment from Stampendous & was painted with mowed lawn & festive berries distress inks.  The berries were then enamelled with Glossy Accents.

Card Three:  We used a strip of cream card to the top and a strip of Graphic 45 Christmas paper at the bottom to form the base of this card.  The join was covered in green ribbon & a bow was added.  The Tim Holtz poinsettia was coloured in mowed lawn, festive berries & tea dye/antique linen distress ink, spritzed with Enchanted Gold then layered onto the card with foam pads.  Lastly a sentiment was added.

I hope this has given you a brief reminder of the products used in this workshop.  Thanks for coming, it was a lovely morning.

Thursday 14 November 2013

Next time you're in the shop, which hopefully will be very soon, take a look at the wonderful display showcasing the Graphic 45 TYPOGRAPHY paper pads. This range of papers sit so well beside the beautiful old typewriter---do you remember using one just like it???

We will be getting more packs of the very popular Craftwork Cards Christmas Post collection. The latest Treasure box workshop incorporated papers from this pack.

A lovely vintage colour scheme and so easy to use. Don't forget to take a look at Natalie's lovely samples. She has also been sampling with the other Craftwork card paper packs-Vintage Boho and Vogue. Both very different and beautiful colour palettes. I will post some pictures of these samples soon.

Don't forget to pick up your application form for the Bird House competition when next in the shop. The prize is not to be sniffed at!!! One of the new Blue Big Shot machines!!! Wish I could enter!
Thanks for stopping by.

Today's Shadow Box Workshop

A big thank you to the lovely group of ladies at today's workshop. (Really sorry we have one lady missing!)
All went away with their shadow box cards completed. Its amazing how even when supplied with the same materials everyone goes away with something slightly different.
First of all we used Distress inks to create the background on the frame, with the addition of some stamping and also inking through the holly mask. Then the scary bit.... we had to cut the middle aperture out!!! The box was then constructed and we stamped the Crafty Individuals Santa stamp to be placed inside. A bit of matting and layering and......... the finished article!
Its amazing what can be done with just plain card and a few inks/masks/stamps!
This shadow box workshop has been repeated a number of times although each one has been different. This one was more or less the same as last week workshop and we had a really lovely time then as well. Apologies for not taking photos!

Don't forget to pick up your entry form for the bird house competition. The prize is one of the lovely new Big Shot machines worth £90!!!!
So don't miss out on that!!!

November and Decembers workshop lists can be found on the website. Just phone or pop in the shop to book your place.
Take care
